Many parents are facing a dilemma regarding the discipline of their children. In the olden times, corporal punishment was enforced in order to discipline wayward kids. That may not be the best recourse but nevertheless such methods are not allowed anymore. Kids nowadays are very much aware of their rights and most of them will have no qualms in reporting any perceived maltreatment experienced.

An often asked question is how to effectively discipline a child. Disciplining a child can be a challenge and there are several factors which need to be considered. Corporal punishment is out unless one would like to be reported for child abuse.

A parent should take into consideration the nature of the child. Each one is different from another thus, the method should also consider these individual differences. There are some kids who respond better with rewards while others need something drastic such as suspension of some privileges. Make sure though that whether the parent rewards or punishes the child, the focus would have to be on the action or the behaviour not the person which is in this case, the child.

The next thing is to be consistent. The child needs to know which is right and wrong and which actions are acceptable and not. These can be affirmed by being consistent. An action like hitting another child should always be considered wrong whatever the reason for such might be. That way the child will not be confused.

With those simple tips, hopefully the challenges of child discipline can be managed.
